Simple Commerce = Simple Invoicing Software

Written by: Justin Long | On: March 6, 2011 | Permalink

For a project that I am working on I needed an easy to use low cost way to allow for site admins to create invoices for their clients. Luckily for me all the people that might be receiving an invoice are going to be members of EE already and the client only wanted to collect payments through PayPal. After a little bit of trial and error I was able to come up with a solution that the client loves, and it come with every ExpressionEngine installation at no extra cost.

I have been working on a client site recently that uses Channel Images for DevDemon and it has really challenged how I deal with photos in my entries. So I decided to compare them head to head and here are my results so far.

Selecting Multiple Recipients with Freeform

Earlier this week I saw someone asking on Twitter if there were any other Form Modules for ExpressionEngine other then Freeform. Frankly there isn't, mostly because Solspace offers Freeform as a powerful free add-on. Fast forward to today and I saw a message from Dominic Sawyer asking about sending to multiple people based upon a users selection.

Today marks a day that ExpressionEngine developers can rejoice about, we finally have a full fledged eCommerce module for EE2. BrilliantRetail is a great piece of software that allows for developers to easily set up a an online store for their clients, it also features multiple product types, payment gateways, and shipping plugins. I was in the beta and I can say that I am excited to use BrilliantRetail for my next eCommerce project which will be selling subscriptions and services. If you use the promo code "eecms" you can save $25.01 of the very low $125 one time price.

3 Approaches to Adding Photos to Entries in ExpressionEngine 2

Written by: Justin Long | On: January 9, 2011 | Permalink

A while back AJ Penninga posted a video on Vimeo detailing how to build a system that allowed you to add images to a post even though the images were stored in a separate Matrix field. Now that EE2 is out and being widely adopted I felt like this needs to be addressed again since LG Replace was not ported over to EE2. As I write this there are currently 3 add-ons that have similar functionality to LG Replace and they are NSM Transplant, eMarketSouth's String Plugin, and MX Jumper. In this post I am going to go step by step implementing each add-on and compare the features and performance.

Just Signed up with Quora

Written by: Justin Long | On: January 7, 2011 | Permalink

The last few days my Twitter feed has been constantly filled with tweets about Quora, a new community powered question and answer site. Ideally you would be able to search for a topic on Quora and the resulting page would contain all of the information that you may need/want about that particular topic because other users have answer and linked pages together. That sounds great in theory but I am not so sure that is how it will pan out in practice. Time will tell I guess. Having said that I did signup for an account this evening (My Profile) so we will see how it goes.
